What is the City's rule on grass and weeds?

Category: Grass/Weeds

According to City Ordinance (Sec. 24-3), it is every property owner’s responsibility to maintain their property, and that includes the mowing of your grass. We require that grass or weeds should not grow eight inches above the ground. Every property owner in the City is responsible for keeping grass and weeds mowed in their yards and to the center line of any alleyway, if applicable.

Additionally, Ordinance (Sec. 32-4) specifies the proper disposal of grass clippings. It is unlawful for excessive amounts of grass clippings, leaves, mud, or otherwise to be deposited on sidewalks, streets, or the curb/gutter area of a street. Such contamination can plug stormwater inlets, resulting in flooding.

If you notice such grass or weeds, then contact the Codes and Planning Department at 660.627.1272.
