Where can I bring household hazardous waste and when are items accepted?
The Public Works Department hosts a Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off twice a year. These only occur during May and September each year at the Public Works Complex. You must call Public Works for an appointment during the appropriate week that we announce ahead of time. It is preferred that you bring a list of your items on the day of disposal with you to your appointment. Contact Public Works at 660.627.1291 for more information.
If you have hazardous household waste that you need to dispose outside of the our drop-off times, you should contact a local waste disposal company for their services.
Hazardous household waste is defined as any leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients. This includes oil-based paints, certain batteries, motor oil, household cleaners, pesticides, and more. Batteries are only accepted if their positive and negative terminals are covered with tape.
We do not accept latex paint, syringes, items containing mercury, knives, electronics, computer batteries, containers over five gallons, and cylinder items such as fire extinguishers, freon, helium, and propane.
